Hi,

Just a short update.  My wife and I went up to Remsen, Iowa where my Mom is in a Nursing Home.  She is well cared for.  Mom had a very difficult life, Rheumatoid Arthritus of the worst kind.  Pain like you would not wish on your worst enemy.  She dealt with it gracefully as long as she could.  Now she has memory issues that are very bad.

Having said all that, we visit her a fair amount.  She knows who we are, and enjoys it when we visit.  We took her for a walk, well pushed her wheelchair ... around the town of Remsen.  I don't think she gets out very much.  And sometimes when we try to take her out ... she can't take the weather.  But, all in all ... she was okay with going for a walk yesterday -- even though a bit hot, and very windy.  We went out for about an hour.

It had been a couple of months since I had last seen Mom, as I was just buried with summer school work and GRE.  So, with that in the rear view mirror -- we went to see Mom.  I am glad we did.

Dave -- I have looked at the M&M ingredients -- I think they are not nearly as bad as some of the diet pop I was drinking so heavily.  That goes almost immediately to chemicals you have no idea what they are.  So, it's probably good to say "sayonarra" to all of that, and drink water instead.  So far ... I have done pretty good with the water.  The M&M's ... I haven't quite bid adieu to. :)  The M&M's were sugar, peanuts, skim milk, and things that made sense. :)  Not that eating a lot of sugar is a great idea.  So ... still a work in progress. ;)

That's good that your mom remembers you and enjoys your visits.

Jay, I'm glad you had time to visit your mother. Those times are so precious while we have them. :-)
As for the M&Ms, everyone has something they like to have as a treat. Just remember to eat them as a treat, which in my mind means no more than once (ok, maybe twice ... lol) a week. Well, that's my guideline for myself. Everyone has to have their own set of "rules" personalized just for them, the individual that they are. My "guiltless pleasure" is ice cream! Yummy!! Hmmm. I haven't had any ice cream for at least a month. Maybe more. Nor M&Ms. They probably would taste pretty good together. [grin] (Ok, here's the disclaimer, just in case it's necessary: I'm only joking!! I'm way too serious about getting to GOAL asap for that!!)
