Back Again for Another Attempt |

Well, I fell off the weight loss wagon after getting down to 165 lbs. I allowed myself to gradually gain weight and as you can see I am not where I started but heading that way. I need to get back on track and get my weight heading south on the scales again. I quit posting on here because I did not have anything positive to report I guess. But, I am ready to give it another try so I thought I should come back for the supprt and encouragement of my fellow Health Stewards.
I plan on putting much more effort into exercise this time instead of just relying on dieting. I hope that I can get into a routine and stick with it. If anyone has any tips that have helped you I would appreciate any advice that you may have.

Posted by fellow HealthSteward Stacie-235 from Michigan on Sep 13, 2008 Welcome back Gary! What I do is walk on the treadmill or in the mall & do sit-ups. I am just now starting to get into an exercise routine with resistance bands to help more on toning.

Posted by fellow HealthSteward Kathy-227 from Arkansas on Sep 13, 2008 Welcome Back! I hope you find a kind of exercise you enjoy. A lot of people on here seem to be gym rats, I'm a runner, we have swimmers...something will click with you, I'm sure. I know it sure takes BOTH exercise and watching my diet to have success. Good luck, and be sure to update again soon!

Posted by fellow HealthSteward Karen-216 from California on Sep 13, 2008 Hi Gary! Welcome back. Congratulations on keeping some of the weight you lost off. I struggle with exercise, too. In fact, I've jokingly referred to myslef as She-Who-Hates-To-Sweat! However, I finally became resigned to the fact that I won't reach my goal or be able to keep it unless I amp up my activity level.
One thing that has really helped me is a device called a Bodybugg. It's a wireless device with a digital readout that tracks the number of calories I burn throughout the day. Because it's hooked up with an interactive computer program, I have a good idea of what my Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is, and also how much of a calorie deficit I need to create in order to lose weight each week. What's been great about this device is the right out in front evidence: I can immediately see how much I've burned throughout the day, and then target the remaining balance with a little extra activity.
Hope this helps!
Blessings, Karen

Posted by fellow HealthSteward Tim-215 from Ohio on Sep 13, 2008 Welcome again! Going for almost an entire year without a large weight gain is a good sign that once you get down to maintenance, you can stay there ... glad to see you back here.

Posted by fellow HealthSteward dr. Nick-1 from California on Oct 2, 2008 It takes a real man to act like a real Health Steward. Its so great to have you back. And its not either or....its both....controlling the amount of fuel we put into the body vehicle and increasing the amount of fuel that we burn....you are still ahead in the weight loss progress column so may your refocus be rewarding!

Posted by fellow HealthSteward Irene-277 from Michigan on Jun 29, 2009 I knew that I am a person that needs lots of exercise to lose, but w/out dieting I just maintain. w/out ex. I gain. I am old enough now to commit to both finally. Do what works for you!
